Warhammer 40k Painting - Tau Tide Wall and Tau Tide Wall Gun Rig - Part 3 - Paint metallic layer and paint chipping

 Hey Mates!

This part 3 section is going to be focusing on the metallic layer and paint chipping process of these models.

These are the paint that I used during this process and the steps will be below.

The Paint Scheme - Feel free to keep this quick, you don't have to concern yourself with being overly neat. This layer though having multiple steps is just going to be peeking through the base scheme in random locations.

1. Airbrush army painter gun metal - whole model
2. Airbrush citadel runefang brass - in random spots on model
3. Airbrush highlight of plate metal - edge and Zenith lighting areas

4. Wash using a burnt umber oil wash - whole model heavy wash
5. Wash using a black oil paint wash - in recesses only
6. Dry-Brush the model using army painter gun metal - focus on the edges
7. Dry-Brush the model using Army Painter plate metal - this dry brush should be careful and only placed lightly on the edges. The idea is to maintain the first dry brush and this just brings out the edges a little bit more.
8. Airbrush vallejo satin varnish - over the whole model
9. Chipping seal using hair spray - spray whole model with one good coat of hair spray - Do not use a aerosol can just a simple pump hair spray. You can also apply the spray with a air brush. If you use a air brush apply two coats instead of one coat.

Step 5, 6 and 7

I got so caught up in the process, that I forgot to take pictures. Let the model dry for about a hour, then you can apply your main scheme base paints.

I am glad that these are free models that I can practice one. Found it frustrating trying to apply my orange and white base colors to specific squares. The low tack taper I use would pull the blue base paint off. So attempted to free hand  using a airbrush the base colors but also had some trouble in that air with over spray.

Using a hand brush was a bit frustrating cause of how it dries. normally I would use very watered down paint and build up the layers but too water of paint causes the blue paint to chip off too.

So I am gonna just chip with just the blue base on the model first, then apply another layer of satin varnish. Once dry I will attempt to tape the squares off again and apply my other base colors.
